**New Rules for IT Workers in Georgia: A Special Residence Permit**
Starting soon, foreign nationals working in the Information Technology (IT) sector in Georgia will have to obtain a special type of residence permit. This new requirement is part of changes being made to the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.
According to the draft law, this new type of temporary residence permit will be issued to three groups of people: labor immigrants working in IT who are registered with the Ministry of Health; individual entrepreneurs operating small businesses in IT who are registered in Georgia; and authorized representatives or leaders of international companies working in IT. Family members of these individuals may also be eligible for the permit.
**What You Need to Know**
To get this special residence permit, workers will need to provide proof of at least two years of experience in labor or economic activities in the IT sector. They must also show that their annual income from these activities is not less than 25,000 USD in Georgian lari. This information will be required when submitting an application for the permit.
The temporary residence permit will initially be issued for three years and can be renewed every three years up to a maximum of 12 years.
**Monitoring Your Presence**
Another condition that workers must meet is being physically present in Georgia for at least 183 days within any continuous 12-month calendar period. This includes time spent in the country as well as periods when abroad for medical treatment. The Government of Georgia will be responsible for defining the procedure for monitoring the presence of residence permit holders.
**Quick Review Ahead**
Parliament plans to review the proposed changes under an accelerated procedure, so we can expect this new rule to come into effect soon.
