**Serbian Finance Minister Announces Reduction in University Tuition Fees**

The Serbian government has agreed to lower university student tuition fees by 50%. This decision meets one of the demands made by students who have been protesting for weeks.

Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said that the government has secured 12 billion Dinars (around €103 million) for university education. He explained that this money will be used to reduce tuition fees, cover expenses, and possibly increase salaries for professors and other university staff.

The reduction in tuition fees is a response to one of four demands made by students who have been protesting since the collapse of a concrete awning at Novi Sad Railway Station in November 2023. The tragedy resulted in the loss of 15 lives.
