**Tragedy Continues to Unfold in Gaza as Israeli Strikes Kill and Injure Many**
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with the husband of a Palestinian physician left fighting for his life after an Israeli strike last Friday. Dr. Hamdi al Najjar’s condition is described as critical by his treating hospital.
According to Bulgarian physician Dr. Milena Angelova-Chee, who is working at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Mr. al Najjar suffered significant injuries to his right arm, brain, lungs, and kidney during the attack. His wife, Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, also a doctor, was not injured.
This incident occurred just days after another Israeli strike left the al-Najjar couple and their 11-year-old son with injuries. Nine of their children were killed in the attack, which has sparked widespread condemnation.
**Calls for Ceasefire**
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reiterated its call for a ceasefire in Gaza, citing the deaths of two of its employees in a strike on Saturday. The ICRC is urging all parties to take immediate action to prevent further loss of life.
In the past 18 months, Gaza has been plagued by ongoing conflict and Israeli military operations. According to the Health Ministry, at least 3,785 Palestinians have been killed since March 2024.
**Evacuation Orders**
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has issued evacuation orders for the Khan Younis Governorate, citing an “unprecedented” attack. However, many Palestinians claim they cannot leave due to a lack of safe havens and the extensive blockade imposed by Israel.
**Humanitarian Crisis Deepens**
A humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Gaza, with the World Food Programme (WFP) stating that 500,000 people are extremely food-insecure and at risk of famine. The WFP has reported that no aid trucks entered Gaza on Saturday, and bread distribution was halted due to severe threats faced by bakeries.
**International Community Concerned**
The international community is growing increasingly concerned about the situation in Gaza. Citing the threat of famine, UN officials have urged Israel to allow more aid into the territory. The WFP has called for an immediate increase in the number of aid trucks entering Gaza, with a goal of 500-600 trucks per day.
**Humanitarian Toll**
The humanitarian toll of this conflict is staggering, with over 53,939 deaths reported in Gaza since October 2023. This includes 16,500 children and numerous medical professionals who have lost their lives while trying to provide care to those affected by the fighting.
As this tragedy continues to unfold, the international community must come together to urge for a ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid to support those affected by this ongoing conflict.
