**Farmers Protest in Raca, Serbia**
A group of farmers blocked a main road and entered the municipal administration building in the town of Raca, near Kragujevac. They started protesting on January 30.
The farmers are demanding that the local property tax, which has increased by 60%, be lowered back to last year’s level. They are also asking for the resignation of the entire municipal leadership.
**Farmers Take Over Municipal Building**
At around 7 am on Tuesday morning, a group of farmers entered the municipal administration building in Raca. They said they will stay there until their demands are met. The head of the Serbian Farmers’ Movement, Milan Milosevic, said that the farmers will stay in the building for several days and then decide what to do next.
“We have been on the streets for sixteen days,” said Milosevic. “This is our house, our building. We will stay here until our demands are met.”
**Local Authorities Respond**
The local authorities have responded to the farmers’ demands. The municipal head, Branko Radosavljevic, said that the municipality has done everything possible and shown good faith in responding to the farmers’ proposals.
Radosavljevic also said that after meeting with the farmers last week, they contacted the Finance Ministry to find a solution. However, he thinks that the demand for resignations is a political issue and not of great concern to the farmers.
