**Farmers’ Protests Succeed in Serbia**
For nearly a month, farmers in the town of Raca in Serbia’s Sumadija District blocked the main street with tractors to protest against a 60% increase in property taxes. Their efforts have finally paid off.
The Raca Municipal Council has decided to revert the tax increase back to last year’s level. The decision was made at an urgent council meeting, where all attending members, representing the ruling parties, voted in favor of the change.
Farmers are celebrating their victory, but they will not move their tractors until the decision is officially made. They believe that constant pressure on the system is necessary for it to function properly.
“We have managed to win and overturn the decision that brought us together here,” said farmer Milan Milosevic. “We have to constantly exert pressure on this system for it to work.”
The protests, which included spending nights in the municipal administration building, were led by farmers Jovan Golubovic and others. They will continue to fight for their rights until they see real change.
