Turkish President Erdogan Seeks Peace in Ukraine
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said there’s a need for a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine. He made this statement on January 20 after meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Erdogan wants a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine as soon as possible. He plans to talk about it with the new US President, Donald Trump. Erdogan also said that Turkey will continue to work towards peace in Ukraine.
Slovak Prime Minister Fico agreed with Erdogan’s idea of finding a peaceful solution. However, he noted that it might be difficult for Russia to leave occupied territories in Ukraine. Fico suggested supporting the US if they can quickly end the war.
Erdogan and Fico signed agreements to improve relations between Turkey and Slovakia. They will work together on military, cultural, and defense projects.
Turkey wants good relations with both Russia and Ukraine. The country has allowed Russian oil to flow into Europe since the war in Ukraine began. This allows Russia to get around sanctions imposed by the EU.
