**Israeli Hostage Released from Gaza, Shocked by News of Wife and Daughters’ Death**
Eli Sharabi, an Israeli hostage held captive in Gaza for 16 months, was released on Saturday at Deir al-Balah. However, his British family has revealed that he did not know about the death of his wife and daughters until he was set free.
Lianne Sharabi, Eli’s wife from Bristol, and their two daughters Noiya and Yahel were found dead in a safe house in October 2023. The news was confirmed to Eli by an Israeli soldier on Saturday.
Eli was one of three Hamas hostages released by the Red Cross as part of an international ceasefire agreement. In a video message, he expressed happiness at being reunited with his family. However, his gaunt appearance and emotional state were visible, causing concern among his relatives.
Lianne’s parents, Gill and Pete Brisley, described Eli as “lucid” but visibly shaken. They met him via a video call and said that seeing him brought back memories of their lost loved ones. The couple will soon be visiting Eli in Israel to support him.
**Two More Hostages Receive Shocking News**
Or Levy, another hostage released on Saturday, was told by his brother Michael that his wife had been killed by Hamas during the 7th October attack. Or had held onto hope for 491 days that she would return to him.
The release of three hostages is part of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority. In exchange for 1,900 Palestinian prisoners, 33 Israeli hostages will be released weekly.
Since the ceasefire began, 16 Israeli hostages and 566 prisoners have been released. However, the conflict has resulted in significant losses on both sides, with around 1,200 Israelis killed and 47,500 Palestinians dead, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry.
