**Netherlands Supports Sanctions Against Georgian Officials**
The Dutch Foreign Minister, Kaspar Velkamp, spoke out against the recent elections in Georgia. He expressed concern about press freedom and journalists’ rights.
Velkamp said that the Netherlands supports sanctions against officials who are responsible for repression. The country wants to suspend visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic passports. This is seen as a first step towards more action.
The Dutch Foreign Minister also mentioned issues related to journalists and their freedom. He noted that the Netherlands has made additional resources available to protect journalists and those arrested during protests.
Velkamp reiterated that the Netherlands supports people working to advance Georgia’s European path. However, he remains critical of the recent elections due to a report by ODIHR.
