**Milorad Dodik Sentenced to Prison and Banned from Presidency**
The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has given Milorad Dodik a one-year prison sentence. He was also banned from serving as president of the country’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity for six years.
Dodik was found guilty of not following the decisions of the High Representative of the international community in the country, Christian Schmidt. There was a big controversy when Dodik tried to sign laws that had been cancelled by Schmidt. Despite this, Dodik went ahead and signed two laws, which caused tension with the Court and other institutions.
Many people came to court to support Dodik during his trial. His party colleagues and even the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stood up for him. But some opposition parties in Republika Srpska do not support Dodik and want him to resign.
**Reactions to the Sentence**
Dodik has said that if he is convicted, Serbs will leave state institutions like the police and armed forces. He even suggested forming a confederation with Serbia and Republika Srpska. As the sentence was being handed down, there were protests in support of Dodik in Banja Luka.
Opposition parties have called for Dodik’s resignation instead of supporting him. The situation is tense, but it’s unclear how this will play out.
