**Russian Attack on Ukrainian Cities Leaves Devastation and Casualties**
On the night of July 12, Russia launched a massive attack on several Ukrainian cities, including Chernivtsi. The city was hit by combined strikes using Shahed drones and cruise missiles, targeting exclusively civilian objects such as residential buildings and a kindergarten.
**Chernivtsi Under Attack**
According to Deputy Mayor Yevhenii Makhovikov, the main damage in Chernivtsi was caused by falling missile debris and the blast wave. Tragically, two people have been confirmed dead, while four more are in critical condition. The attack damaged two residential buildings and commercial property, with a nine-story apartment building being particularly affected.
**Emergency Services Respond**
Makhovikov praised the quick response of emergency services, who were deployed immediately to deal with the aftermath. “All units at various levels were immediately deployed,” he said. The city council has also offered medical assistance and food to residents whose homes were damaged.
**Russian Propaganda Debunked**
Russia’s propaganda machine quickly sprang into action, claiming that military targets had been struck in Chernivtsi, Lutsk, and Lviv. However, Makhovikov was quick to debunk these claims, pointing out that the city’s kindergarten, which was also damaged, is not a “military factory.”
**Kindergarten Evacuated**
As a result of the attack, the city council has decided to close the kindergarten temporarily, with children being relocated to other nearby preschool facilities.
**Heroic Doctors in Chernivtsi**
In a separate incident, doctors at the House of Butterflies medical center in Chernivtsi performed emergency resuscitation on a gravely ill child named Zlata during the attack. The girl stopped breathing as explosions rocked the city, and the medical staff stayed inside to save her life.
**Lviv and Lutsk Also Hit**
Lviv also experienced one of the largest drone attacks, with nine people injured, including an 11-year-old boy. Forty-six buildings were damaged, and over 500 windows were broken. In Lutsk, a private residential house was practically destroyed, but fortunately, there are no reports of casualties.
