Georgia’s elections were fair, says official.

The government of Georgia is legitimate, according to the country’s Chairman of the Procedural Issues and Rules Committee. Davit Matikashvili made this statement to journalists.

He said that observers from OSCE/ODIHR, a group that monitors elections in Europe, thought that the recent elections in Georgia were very good. They gave praise to the Central Election Commission for doing its job well.

There is no reason to question whether the government was fair and honest during the election, said Matikashvili. He thinks it’s hard to imagine what arguments anyone who doesn’t like Georgia could come up with to say that the government wasn’t legitimate.

Today, European Union leaders will meet in Brussels to talk about recent developments in Georgia. They will discuss other important issues too.
