**Stricter Laws on Marijuana and Cannabis Coming into Effect**
The government is set to introduce stricter liability measures regarding marijuana and the cannabis plant. This legislative package will be reviewed by Parliament quickly, with changes being made to several laws.
**What Does this Mean for You?**
If you’re caught with small quantities of marijuana or cannabis – up to 10 grams of the plant, 5 grams of dried marijuana, or 10 grams of raw marijuana – it’s considered an administrative offense. This means you’ll face fines, community service, or even a year in prison if you get caught again.
**But be Careful…**
If you’re found with larger quantities, things get serious fast. For example:
* If you have 155 to 750 grams of cannabis plant, 70 to 250 grams of dried marijuana, or 140 to 500 grams of raw marijuana, you could face up to 8 years in prison.
* And if you’re caught with especially large quantities – over 750 grams of cannabis plant, 250 grams of dried marijuana, or 500 grams of raw marijuana – the punishment is even harsher: 8 to 20 years in prison or even life imprisonment.
**Changes for Sellers too**
The government is also planning stricter regulations on selling marijuana and cannabis. This includes reviewing the Constitutional Court’s rulings on growing these plants, so you can expect similar punishments as those imposed for other narcotic substances.
**What’s Being Said**
According to Archil Gorduladze, Chair of the Legal Affairs Committee, the goal is to make sure people are held accountable for their actions regarding marijuana and cannabis. By reviewing previous court rulings and introducing new sanctions, they hope to create a fairer system.
