**Ukraine Introduces Military Training for Students**
From September 2025, students at Ukrainian higher education institutions will receive basic military training. The Defense Ministry announced this on January 17.
**President Approves Changes to Law**
President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier approved changes to the law on military duty and service in Ukraine. These changes require systematic basic military training for students.
**What Will the Training Cover?**
The course will include 90 hours of theory study and 210 hours of practical training. The theory part is compulsory for both men and women aged 18-25, while the practical course is mandatory only for men. Women can attend it if they wish, after passing a medical examination.
**What Skills Will Students Learn?**
During the course, students will gain basic knowledge in tactics, intelligence, psychology, first aid, and military discipline. They will also learn how to handle weapons.
**Consequences of Completing Training**
Men who complete the course will become liable for military service but won’t be drafted into the army until they are 25 years old. They can choose to join voluntarily up until that age.
