“It turns out the opposition is the main challenge for the country… What a surprise! In a democracy, there are parties that want to replace you –what a ‘shocking’ phenomenon!” said Bakur Kvashilava, General Secretary of the “Freedom Square” party, during an appearance on PalitraNews’ program “Day Newsroom,” commenting on the statement by Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of “Georgian Dream,” regarding the party’s victory in the elections on October 1, 2012.
Kvashilava also evaluated the part of Ivanishvili’s statement where he notes that “today we are still fighting, but against a transformed enemy and challenges.” According to Kvashilava, for Ivanishvili, the “transformed enemy” could be “any force that criticizes ‘Georgian Dream.'”
“The ‘transformed enemy’ for ‘Georgian Dream’ can only mean one thing: any force that calls on ‘Georgian Dream’ to govern the country according to democratic principles. Any force that tells ‘Georgian Dream’ that the judiciary must be independent, that the prosecution must be independent. This is the transformed enemy that says the will of the people is for you to leave power and step down from the government. For Ivanishvili and ‘Georgian Dream,’ there is no country that can remain a friend forever. Any country can become an enemy; any domestic political force, including our church, can become an enemy in a second if it says that ‘Georgian Dream’s’ time is up and power must be handed over to someone else.
It turns out the opposition is the main challenge… What a surprise that in a democracy, there are parties that want to replace you. What a ‘shocking’ phenomenon. How surprising for the leadership of ‘Georgian Dream.’ It turns out that the ideals of 2012 must be protected by creating a one-party state, by making criticism of ‘Georgian Dream’ impossible.
Therefore, what we see is absolutely disgusting propaganda that tells you democracy is dictatorship and war is supposedly peace,” Kvashilava stated.
On the same topic, Kvashilava noted that “13 years is a tragedy.”
“It’s important to note that 13 years is a tragedy. The victory of ‘Georgian Dream’ in 2012 was largely due to the decision of the Georgian people, the majority of whom voted for them. At the same time, it was driven by our Western partners, members of the free world, who were the decisive forces that pressured Mikheil Saakashvili and the ‘United National Movement.’ This ensured that Saakashvili acknowledged the election results. We all know who exerted this pressure – the European Union and the United States. Thanks to them, ‘Georgian Dream’ took over power. Today, ‘Georgian Dream’ forgets this and calls the people who stood by them in 2012 to defend democracy ‘agents.’ Moreover, they label them as part of a so-called ‘deep state’ under foreign influence or invented names. They love power so much that they want to hold onto it at any cost.
In 2020, Tsulukiani stated that ‘the German Embassy was the one that helped us create the Constitution.’ She spoke with an innocent face, but in 2024, when she receives devastating criticism from the German Embassy and its state, Germany suddenly becomes an enemy. When Ivanishvili talks about propaganda in his letter, claiming that someone is lying, the biggest liar in Georgian politics is ‘Georgian Dream,'” Kvashilava stated.
Regarding other issues, Kvashilava also commented on the sanctions imposed by the Czech government on five more Georgian citizens. According to his assessment, “as the number of people rightfully included in these sanctions grows, ‘Georgian Dream’ will run out of resources to reward them in other ways.”
“There will no longer be hectares of land to give away for one GEL, as was proven in Kakheti with Papuashvili, when someone transferred land to him for one GEL, and so on. When there are no more such lands left for these judges and prosecutors, and their numbers exceed 100, the rest will realize that, along with the public’s contempt, they will no longer receive property. Then they will make decisions that are at least in line with their conscience,” Kvashilava stated.
