Bacho Kajaia Speaks Out in Court

Actor Bacho Kajaia spoke up during his court hearing, saying he did not commit any crime against his country or people. He does not think he should face administrative sanctions.

Kajaia explained that on January 9, he and a friend, actress Ana Tkebuchava, joined a protest after leaving a café. They had coffee with friends first, then went to Rustaveli Avenue where it was already blocked. Kajaia said he is late because he does not use public transport.

He stated his reason for being at the protest was to defend the European future for his friends and family members who were detained or beaten. Kajaia took responsibility for his actions in public spaces, but did not recall any police officer telling him what to do. He believes he did nothing wrong.

Kajaia is accused of violating a rule about blocking roads during protests. He thinks this is unfair and does not want to face sanctions.
