Azerbaijan’s Parliament Speaker Visits Georgia

Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly (Milli Mejlis), visited Georgia on March 10. She met with her Georgian counterpart, Shalva Papuashvili, and they signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between their countries.

Gafarova also met with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili. The meetings focused on deepening friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed by Gafarova and Papuashvili aims to promote parliamentary cooperation and strategic partnership aspirations. It also plans to facilitate regular links between commissions and committees, as well as exchange visits for delegations to share experience.

Papuashvili said it was a pleasure to host Gafarova, a friend and supporter of Georgia. He emphasized the historically friendly relations between their countries and expressed readiness to continue intensive cooperation and exchange on the parliamentary level.

Gafarova met with Kobakhidze on March 11, where they discussed strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia, joint regional projects, and economic cooperation. They highlighted the development of the Middle Corridor as a key area of collaboration.

The meetings also touched upon the importance of peace and stability in the South Caucasus region. Gafarova met with Kavelashvili, who emphasized that Georgia supports peace and stability in the region and is ready to continue contributing to this process.
