Archimandrite Dorothe Qurashvili visited Levan Khabeishvili, the Chairman of the Political Council of the “National Movement,” in Rustavi Prison.
As he told journalists, Levan Khabeishvili said he is in high spirits and that “there’s no sign of imprisonment on him.”
“I went to see Levan and gave him communion. What he asked me to convey to the people is that he is in very high spirits, ‘there’s no sign of imprisonment on me,’ and to tell this to the people. It’s understandable that he was detained because of his statements, but beyond that, the problem is that they are denying him communication with his family and the public, not giving him access to a phone, and not allowing him to write letters. In my opinion, keeping a person in such captivity is a very grave situation, but he told me, ‘I know why they’re doing this, and I’m not suffering because of it; what I’m doing is bigger than communication at this moment.’ I think Levan’s captivity speaks more about freedom than his being free would, and Levan knows this, and the people see it too. Levan is hopeful that the people see everything,” stated Archimandrite Dorothe Qurashvili.
According to him, he also discussed October 4 with Levan Khabeishvili.
“Not only me but everyone around me has started thinking about October 4. People who were previously skeptical now see October 4 as significant for everyone. I don’t know to what extent everything will conclude on October 4, but it is a fact that something will begin,” stated Archimandrite Dorothe Qurashvili.
In his assessment, Levan Khabeishvili is unjustly detained.
“Levan hasn’t done anything that would justify denying him communion. Therefore, I will definitely go in once a week or every two weeks to give him communion. I would prefer if this meeting happened outside, if he came to the church to receive communion there. I hope it will be so, that they will come to their senses and release not only Levan but also others who are unjustly detained. However, Levan’s charges are unjust; it’s unheard of anywhere to imprison someone for their words and promises. This kind of thing doesn’t happen anywhere,” stated Archimandrite Dorothe Qurashvili.
He clarified that Levan Khabeishvili told him he is not being mistreated in prison.
“Levan told me that none of the supervisors are hostile. No one exceeds their duties, and everyone treats him as a person should be treated,” stated Archimandrite Dorothe Qurashvili.
