**Georgia Diplomat Responds to US Senator’s Comments**
A recent statement by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has left Georgia officials feeling frustrated and confused. The senator’s comments, made during a visit to the country, sparked a heated debate about the state of relations between Georgia and the United States.
According to Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee in Georgia, the senator’s question was “provocative” and did not take into account the country’s true nature. “Georgia has a pro-Western government that prioritizes democratic principles,” he said in an interview with Interpressnews.
Gorduladze was responding to Rubio’s statement, which implied that there might be an anti-American government in Georgia. However, Gorduladze pointed out that such a regime does not exist in the country. “We should ask: is there an anti-American government in Georgia? No,” he said. “On the contrary, our government is determined to have equal and respectful relations with all partner countries and organizations.”
**A History of Strained Relations**
Gorduladze also touched on the history of strained relations between Georgia and the United States. He noted that previous governments had managed by the “deep state” and the Biden administration had damaged relations significantly. “When there is a values-based alignment — at least with the values expressed by the Trump administration, which align directly with those of ‘Georgian Dream’ and the Georgian people — it is surprising when we don’t hear clear responses or positions in return,” he said.
**Seeking Clarity**
Gorduladze emphasized that Georgia is committed to partnership with the United States and is seeking a clear and strategic roadmap for their relationship. “We are open to any kind of relationship, committed to partnership, and we are doing everything to ensure that — both behind closed doors and publicly,” he said.
In conclusion, Gorduladze’s comments highlight the complexities of Georgia-U.S. relations. While there may be areas for improvement, the Georgian government is eager to move forward in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.
