**Georgian Opposition Leaders Call for Clear Stance Against Regime**
The recent rally in Georgia, led by Salome Zurabishvili, the country’s fifth President, has sparked debate among opposition leaders. Ana Tsitlidze, a leader of the United National Movement, criticized Zurabishvili for not being clear and direct enough in her message. According to Tsitlidze, Zurabishvili should have explicitly stated that participating in local self-government elections is unacceptable.
Tsitlidze argued that Georgian citizens need clarity in their fight against the regime, and that participation in elections would be tantamount to playing by the rules of Bidzina Ivanishvili’s game. She emphasized that an active boycott campaign is one of the main ways to increase the protest mood and get more people on the streets.
**A Mirror to the Regime**
Tsitlidze also responded to Elene Khoshtaria, a leader of the Coalition for Change, who has been on hunger strike. Tsitlidze saw Khoshtaria’s action as a reflection of those who still believe that cooperation with the regime is possible within its own rules. However, Tsitlidze made it clear that this approach is not viable.
**Gakharia’s Ambitions**
Regarding the Gakharia for Georgia party and the Lelo team’s decision to participate in local self-government elections, Tsitlidze was dismissive. She joked that if they’re planning to win Tbilisi from Berlin, it’s not a serious stance against the regime. This comment highlights the perceived lack of commitment to genuine opposition by these parties.
**The Need for Clarity**
Tsitlidze’s comments emphasize the importance of clarity and unity in the fight against the Georgian regime. By being ambiguous or participating in elections, opposition leaders may inadvertently undermine their own efforts. As Tsitlidze noted, Georgian citizens need a clear message from their leaders to know how to proceed.
