**Russian Arms Plant Halts Operations After Ukrainian Drone Strike**

A devastating drone attack by Ukraine has left Russia’s Kupol plant in the Udmurt Republic without operations. The strike, which occurred on June 1, was confirmed by emergency service sources and reported by independent media outlet Astra.

Located over 800 miles from the front line, the Kupol plant is a crucial part of Russia’s defense-industrial complex. It produces some of Russia’s most advanced air defense systems, including Tor and Osa missiles, as well as Harpy-type attack drones. The plant has been under international sanctions for its role in Russia’s military.

According to Astra, two drones successfully hit their targets at the Kupol plant, causing significant damage. One drone flew through the windows of a workshop, while another exploded on the roof of a building, triggering a blaze that collapsed 1,300 square meters of roofing. Four workshops were destroyed in the first building, bringing production to a halt.

The attack resulted in three fatalities and 45 injuries, with six people reported to be in serious condition. Local authorities have been criticized for not issuing an air raid siren before the strike, which residents claim was due to persistent mobile internet outages that prevented them from receiving emergency alerts.

**A Strategic Target**

Ukraine’s General Staff has confirmed the strike on its Telegram channel, framing it as part of Kyiv’s campaign to degrade Russia’s defense-industrial base far from the front. The attack highlights Ukraine’s capacity to launch targeted strikes deep into Russian territory.

This is not the first time the Kupol plant has been targeted by Ukrainian forces. In November 2024, a similar drone strike damaged equipment used to produce Tor missile systems and radar components. Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurt Republic, is known as a hub for Russia’s arms manufacturing industry and the birthplace of the iconic Kalashnikov rifle.

**A New Era in Warfare**

The latest attack underscores Ukraine’s ability to adapt its military strategy to target critical infrastructure far from the front line. As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, it is clear that the nature of warfare has changed dramatically. Drone strikes, once considered a novelty, are now becoming an integral part of modern combat.
