**Russian Forces Attack Kherson, Wounding Several and Damaging Key Infrastructure**

On the morning of June 5, the city of Kherson in Ukraine came under intense shelling by Russian forces. The attack, which was reported by the city’s military administration, resulted in several people being injured and key infrastructure damaged.

According to initial reports, a 74-year-old man was injured due to a blast. Later, it emerged that a second person had also been wounded in the attack. The city council reported that the city hall building was hit by enemy fire, with photos showing shattered windows. A medical facility was also damaged in the attack.

**Multiple Targets Hit in Kherson**

The regional prosecutor’s office stated that four guided aerial bombs struck Kherson in the morning, along with artillery and drone attacks. At least five apartment buildings, an administrative facility, and an educational institution were affected by the shelling. The Kherson Regional Military Administration building was also hit by a guided aerial bomb (KAB) at 5:30 a.m., according to photos shared by the publication “Most”.

**Context of Ongoing Conflict**

The attack on Kherson comes in the context of ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. In February-March 2022, Russian forces occupied Kherson and almost the entire Kherson region. However, in November, Ukrainian defense forces liberated the right-bank part of the Kherson region along with the regional capital.

Since then, Russian troops have systematically shelled Kherson and other de-occupied settlements in the region. The attack on June 5 is just one example of the ongoing violence and destruction caused by these attacks.
