**Ukraine’s Daring Drone Strikes on Russia: A Risky Escalation?**
The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has taken a new turn, with Ukrainian forces launching successful drone strikes against Russian strategic bomber bases. The US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, has sounded the alarm, warning that such actions increase the risk of a dangerous escalation.
According to reports, on June 1st, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) conducted an operation called “Spiderweb,” using 117 AI-powered drones smuggled into Russia. The attack targeted four Russian military airbases deep inside Russian territory and reportedly destroyed or damaged over 40 strategic aircraft, including Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 bombers and A-50 radar planes.
The estimated $7 billion in damage inflicted on Russia’s strategic missile carriers is a significant blow to their nuclear triad components. However, Kellogg emphasized that the psychological impact of such an attack far outweighs the material damage. “When you attack an opponent’s part of the national survival system – which is their triad, their nuclear triad – that means your risk level goes up because you don’t know what the other is going to do,” he explained.

Kellogg described the operation as “bold” but also cautioned that it increases the risk of further escalation. “It’s a very emboldened act. And when you do that, it’s very clear that the risk levels will go up. That is what we try to avoid,” he stated.
The US Special Envoy highlighted the significance of Ukraine’s ability to hit targets deep inside Russian territory, demonstrating their capability and resolve. “Ukraine is not lying down on this, basically saying: we can play this game too,” Kellogg explained.
