Furthermore, over three-quarters (76%) of respondents back providing financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, demonstrating the EU’s dedication to supporting its neighboring country in this time of need. The survey also found that 60% of Europeans approve of granting candidate status to Ukraine, underscoring their support for the country’s European integration aspirations.

**Security Concerns Dominate European Minds**

The war in Ukraine remains at the forefront of European concerns, with 27% of respondents considering it the most important issue facing the EU. This is followed closely by international situation (24%) and security and defense (20%).

**Record Levels of Trust in EU Institutions**

Notably, the survey revealed a significant boost in trust among Europeans for EU institutions. A record 52% of citizens trust the EU, marking the highest level since 2007. Young people aged 15-24 were found to be particularly trusting of the EU, with 59% expressing their confidence.

**Defense Cooperation Takes Center Stage**

The poll also highlighted a growing priority among Europeans for defense cooperation. An impressive 81% support a common defense and security policy among member states – a result not seen since 2004. This suggests that the EU’s efforts to strengthen its collective defense capabilities are gaining traction with citizens.

**EU Budget Priorities Reflect Changing Times**

When asked about EU budget priorities, Europeans were clear in their preferences: they want to see more funds allocated towards defense and security (43%), employment, social affairs, and public health (42%), and education, training, youth, culture, and media (34%).

The Eurobarometer survey provides a valuable snapshot of European public opinion on key issues. As the bloc continues to navigate the complexities of the Ukraine crisis, these results underscore the need for collective action and cooperation among EU member states.
