**New President Takes Office in Romania**

The inauguration marked the end of the interim term of Ilie Bolojan, who had served as Romania’s acting president since February. The ceremony was blessed by Patriarch Daniel, head of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Dan’s victory is significant, especially given the country’s previous presidential vote in November 2024, which was annulled due to credible evidence of foreign interference. The first round of that election was won by an ultranationalist candidate who promoted conspiracy theories and questioned Ukraine’s sovereignty.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has already extended an invitation for Dan to visit Kyiv for high-level talks. This is seen as a positive development, given the close relationship between Romania and Ukraine.

In his address, Dan emphasized the importance of unity and civic engagement. He urged citizens to continue their involvement in politics and to pressure the state to reform. This message of unity and engagement is welcome, especially in a time when polarized politics and social unrest are on the rise.
