**Netherlands to Deliver Last of Pledged F-16 Jets to Ukraine on May 26**
The Netherlands is set to fulfill its promise of delivering the remaining 24 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine on May 26, according to Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans. This move is part of a larger effort by European nations to help modernize the Ukrainian Air Force.
**Ukraine’s Growing Air Power**
In 2024, Ukraine received its first batch of F-16 jets from the Netherlands and Denmark. The U.S.-made fourth-generation fighter jets have been crucial in bolstering Ukraine’s air defense capabilities against Russian aerial attacks. Ukraine has also been promised additional aircraft from other European nations, including 19 from Denmark, 30 from Belgium, and at least six from Norway.
**International Coalition Supports Ukraine**
The delivery of F-16 jets is taking place within the framework of an international fighter jet coalition. While some partners are providing the aircraft themselves, others are contributing training and technical support to help Ukraine build a modern armed force that matches those of NATO member states. As European nations transition to more advanced F-35 fighter jets, they are helping Ukraine upgrade its air power.
**Norway and Belgium Speed Up Deliveries**
Recently, Norway announced that it would complete the delivery of its F-16s by the end of 2025, beating an earlier deadline. Similarly, the Belgian government said it would provide its aircraft sooner than a previously agreed-upon deadline of 2028.
**Ukraine’s F-16 Losses**
Unfortunately, Ukraine has confirmed that it has lost three of its F-16 jets in action. Despite these losses, the delivery of additional F-16s from European nations is crucial in helping Ukraine maintain its air defense capabilities against Russian aggression.
