**Ukraine’s Patrol Police Khyzhak Brigade Takes Down Russian Drone Ambushes**
In a significant development in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, Ukraine’s Patrol Police Khyzhak (“Predator”) Brigade has successfully demonstrated the destruction of Russian ambush drones using their own advanced drone systems. According to reports by Militarnyi on 25 May, the unit released video footage showing how Ukrainian FPV (First-Person View) drones identified and eliminated Russian fiber-optic-controlled UAVs positioned along travel routes to ambush Ukrainian military vehicles.
**Drone Warfare Revolutionizes Modern Conflict**
The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, has become a defining feature of modern warfare. The Russo-Ukrainian war is no exception, with both sides utilizing drones in various sizes and configurations to gain a tactical advantage. **Russian Drone Ambushes Neutralized by Ukrainian Countermeasures**
According to the Brigade’s press service, Russian drones were hidden along travel routes and set in standby mode, waiting to strike Ukrainian targets. However, Ukrainian FPV drones were deployed to locate and destroy these devices, as evident from the video footage released. The use of bomber-type drones dropping munitions on enemy assets is also demonstrated in the video.
**Constant Airspace Monitoring and Demining**
The Brigade stated that they have to constantly monitor the airspace in their zone of responsibility and work on remote demining of roads. This highlights the importance of drone warfare in modern conflict, where militaries must adapt to emerging threats.
**Ukrainian Response: Developing Long-Range Fiber-Optic Drones**
To counter the Russian threat, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are actively developing their own fiber-optic-controlled UAVs. In April, over 15 Ukrainian UAV manufacturers tested their systems, completing obstacle-filled routes of up to 20 km while simulating combat conditions. The results showed a significant breakthrough, with previous Ukrainian drones limited to a range of 5-10 km but the new systems able to engage targets well beyond 20 km.
