**Ukraine Cracks Down on Men Trying to Flee Country**
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war in 2022, Ukraine has been strict about keeping draft-age men from leaving the country. As a result, over 49,000 men have been caught trying to cross the border illegally.
According to Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, these numbers are only since the beginning of martial law in Ukraine. Martial law was imposed when Russia launched its full-scale invasion. The rule prohibits men aged 18-60 from leaving the country.
**A Growing Problem**
The number of men trying to cross the border has increased significantly since the start of martial law. In January, Ukrainian authorities uncovered nearly 50 schemes for draft-age men to escape the country using fake documents and other illegal methods. This has put a strain on Ukraine’s military resources, as more soldiers are needed to fight against Russian forces.
**Cooperation with Neighboring Countries**
To combat this problem, the State Border Guard Service is working closely with border guards from neighboring countries and the EU. They share information and coordinate efforts to stop men trying to cross the border illegally.
**Daily Attempts to Flee**
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko has admitted that dozens of men try to leave the country every day. However, Ukrainian authorities have been cautious about revealing exact figures. Despite this, they are determined to keep draft-age men from fleeing and ensure there are enough soldiers to defend Ukraine against Russian aggression.
