**Russia’s Ongoing Attacks in Ukraine Claim Lives and Injure Many**
In a grim reminder of the ongoing conflict, Russian attacks across various Ukrainian regions have resulted in at least two civilian fatalities and 23 injuries over the past day. This steady stream of violence has become a daily reality for many Ukrainians.
Regional authorities reported on May 21 that Moscow’s forces continue to launch air strikes, drone attacks, and artillery strikes against Ukrainian towns and villages. These attacks have been responsible for numerous civilian casualties in recent times. The scale of these assaults can be gauged from the fact that Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 63 Russian attack drones and decoy drones overnight.
**Drones Downed, But Injuries Pile Up**
Ukrainian air forces reported intercepting a total of 63 Russian drones. While their air defenses successfully shot down 22 of these drones, electronic warfare systems were able to neutralize another 41. Despite this success in shooting down enemy drones, the casualties on the ground mount.
**Regional Breakdown: A Tale of Woe**
The situation varies across regions, with Myrnohrad in Donetsk Oblast bearing witness to a Russian attack that left one civilian injured. In contrast, Kharkiv and six surrounding towns and villages were targeted by Russian forces, leaving 6 civilians hurt. The city of Kupiansk was particularly affected, with three women among the injured.
Kherson Oblast saw ten people injured during Russian strikes, while Kyiv Oblast’s Boryspil district witnessed a drone attack that left a 30-year-old man and his 13-year-old son injured.
Lastly, Sumy Oblast bore the brunt of Russian attacks, resulting in two civilian fatalities. The victims were killed in a drone strike followed by an air strike on the Yunakiv community.
