**A Life Shattered by War**
Sumy, located on the Russian border, was one of the first cities to be occupied by Russian forces when the invasion began. Mila’s account of the chaos that ensued paints a vivid picture: “Bombs, rockets, and drones – they were in the sky every night.” She recalls being worried for her family’s safety, with their home situated near an army area and airport.

Mila, along with her husband and two children, managed to escape the devastation of Sumy. They have since settled in Portishead, where Mila has launched a small tailoring business on the High Street. Her venture has quickly gained popularity among locals, who appreciate her skills.
**A Glimmer of Hope Amidst Despair**
The war has left Mila and her family with deep emotional scars. She expressed regret over leaving behind her elderly father, as well as cherished memories and mementos. The loss of her mother just before the war only adds to the pain. As she reflects on their experiences, Mila candidly admits that the reality of the war still feels like a “terrible dream”.
**A New Sense of Purpose**
However, Mila’s business has given her a sense of purpose and usefulness in her new community. “People come to me, they smile, they love my job,” she said with a smile. Her dedication to her craft is evident, as she works tirelessly to keep her clients satisfied.
**A Community That Cares**
The people of Portishead have welcomed Mila and her family with open arms. Her story serves as a testament to the kindness and compassion that exists in our communities.
