**Russia Continues Daily Assaults on Ukraine Amid Ceasefire Talks**
In a disturbing escalation of violence, Russia launched over 100 explosive drones against Ukraine overnight into May 16, marking yet another brutal nighttime drone barrage. The attacks also included shelling of cities and targeting of civilians with artillery, munition-dropping drones, and FPV UAVs. As low-level delegations of Ukrainian and Russian officials met in Istanbul to engage in ceasefire talks, Moscow continued its deliberate daily air attacks on residential areas and civilian infrastructure.
**At Least Four Civilians Killed, 30 Injured**
The combined assaults over the past day, night, and into the afternoon killed at least four civilians and injured 30 others. Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russian forces launched 112 drones overnight from directions including Russia’s Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
**Drones Target Energy Infrastructure, Apartment Buildings**
The data suggests that at least three explosive drones bearing 50 kg of explosives each might have reached their targets. The regions affected by this mass drone wave included Odesa, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv oblasts.
**Kherson Oblast Suffers Heavily**
Kherson Oblast suffered the most severe human toll, with at least two civilians killed and 10 injured between May 15 and 16. Russian forces shelled 26 settlements on the right bank of the Dnipro River, killing one civilian and injuring another.
**Odesa Oblast Also Targeted**
In Odesa Oblast, three civilians were injured in a drone strike, with one woman in critical condition. A drone also destroyed the home of Odesa Zoo director Ihor Bilyakov.
**Kharkiv Oblast Reports Four Injured, One Killed**
On May 15, an airstrike hit the village of Malyy Burluk in Kharkiv Oblast, wounding an 88-year-old woman and damaging multiple homes. The following morning, a FPV drone strike killed a female municipal worker and injured four male coworkers.
**Donetsk Oblast Reports 13 Casualties**
In Donetsk Oblast, Russian shelling killed one civilian and injured six others over the past 24 hours. On May 16, five civilians between the ages of 50 and 66 were wounded in an attack on Pokrovsk.
**Kyiv City and Kyiv Oblast Report Drone Debris Damage**
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that drone debris damaged residential buildings, a non-residential facility, a road, and the grounds of a heating plant. No injuries were reported.
**Other Oblasts Also Targeted**
Cherkasy Oblast reported 32 drones destroyed on May 16 with no injuries or damage. Kirovohrad Oblast had one Shahed drone downed overnight near Kropyvnytskyi, but no consequences recorded. Zaporizhzhia Oblast saw Russian drones hit Bilenske, damaging homes and a farm structure, but no injuries.
**Ceasefire Talks Continue Amid Ongoing Violence**
As the ceasefire talks continue in Istanbul, it is clear that Russia’s military campaign against Ukraine shows no signs of slowing down. The ongoing violence has resulted in significant human suffering, with at least four civilians killed and 30 injured over the past day alone.
