**Russia Shifts to Attritional Warfare in Ukraine, Says Kyiv’s Top General**
In a significant development, Russia has changed its military strategy from rapid advances to a prolonged and brutal attritional warfare against Ukraine. According to General Oleksandr Syrskyy, Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Moscow is now employing a unified grouping of up to 640,000 troops in an attempt to wear down the Ukrainian military.
This shift in strategy comes as low-level delegations from both countries met in Istanbul for ceasefire talks. Despite these diplomatic efforts, Russia continues its aggressive tactics, launching ground assaults and air attacks on residential areas and civilian infrastructure across eastern Ukraine.
**Russia’s Aggression Continues**
According to Syrskyy, Moscow has not abandoned its goals on the battlefield, and instead, is using a joint grouping of forces totaling up to 640,000 personnel in an attempt to exhaust Ukrainian resources. The Commander-in-Chief reported that Ukrainian troops are engaged in active combat operations along a 1,100-kilometer frontline, conducting effective defensive operations and inflicting significant losses on Russian forces.
**Ukraine’s Defense Needs**
During the session at the Ukraine-NATO Council, Syrskyy addressed the urgent defense needs of Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of individual and collective training of Ukrainian soldiers in partner states and further supply of military equipment, arms, and logistics for Ukraine’s Defense Forces. The General also thanked NATO for its support through the Special NATO Mission for Security Assistance and Support to Ukraine (NSATU) and highlighted the need to accelerate air and missile defense cooperation.
**Unity Among Allies**
Syrskyy concluded his address by calling for unity among NATO allies, stating that only a firm and consolidated position from the international community can force Russia to stop the war. He emphasized the importance of principled and united support from partner countries in achieving a just and lasting peace.
