**Russia’s Top Negotiator Misquotes Napoleon, Falsely Quoting Bismarck in Ukraine War Efforts**
Russian top negotiator Vladimir Medinsky has been making claims about the history of war and negotiations. He said that Western interference in a treaty from 1870 led to big wars like World War I. He also compared the situation in Ukraine to other long-lasting conflicts, like Vietnam and Korea.
**Medinsky’s Historical Claims Challenged**
Medinsky claimed that Napoleon Bonaparte once said that “War and negotiations happen simultaneously.” However, experts say this quote has never been found in any of Napoleon’s writings or statements. Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, says this quote is likely not true.
**Falsely Quoting Bismarck**
Medinsky also tried to defend Russia’s claims by citing a false quote from Otto von Bismarck, the famous German leader. The quote supposedly said that “Never try to deceive the Russians or steal from them.” But even the Russian Military Historical Society, which was founded and led by Medinsky himself, has rejected this quote as not authentic.
**Russia’s Willingness to Fight in Ukraine**
Meanwhile, Brazilian President Lula da Silva revealed that Vladimir Putin had previously agreed to discuss a 30-day truce in Ukraine. However, it seems that Russia is still willing to fight on for a long time. Medinsky said that Russia is “ready to fight forever” just like they did against Sweden for 21 years.
