**Russia’s Grim Toll in Ukraine: 971,000 Troops Lost and Counting**
The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces has issued a stark report on the scale of Russia’s losses since its full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022. The numbers are nothing short of staggering.
At the heart of this report is a single, devastating figure: 971,690 Russian troops lost in combat. This is a grim reminder of the human cost of war and the sacrifices made by those who have fought to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty.
But these losses don’t stop there. Russia has also suffered significant material losses. According to the report, they’ve lost over 10,800 tanks, more than 22,500 armored fighting vehicles, and over 48,700 vehicles and fuel tanks. The sheer scale of this destruction suggests that Russia’s military may be struggling to maintain a steady supply chain.
The numbers also paint a picture of a Russian military that is heavily reliant on artillery systems. They’ve lost 27,908 artillery systems, along with 1,385 multiple launch rocket systems and 1,167 air defense systems. This is worrying for Ukraine, which has already seen significant damage from Russia’s bombardments.
Moreover, Russia’s losses extend beyond the battlefield. They’ve also lost 372 airplanes, 336 helicopters, 36,123 drones, 28 ships and boats, and even one submarine. These numbers underscore the Russian military’s reliance on air power and its vulnerability to Ukrainian counterattacks.
The report by Ukraine’s General Staff is a sobering reminder of the devastating impact of Russia’s invasion on both sides. As we continue to monitor this conflict, it’s clear that these losses will have far-reaching consequences for the future of Ukraine and the Russian Federation itself.
