**Germany’s Ambassador to Georgia: Joining the EU is a Matter of National Effort**
On Europe Day, Germany’s Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, reiterated his country’s support for Georgia’s bid to join the European Union. In an interview, the ambassador emphasized that membership in the EU is not just about government or parliament, but about every single citizen coming together as a nation.
Fischer stressed that everyone knows what needs to be done for membership, and it’s time for Georgia to take action. The ambassador was also asked about why Georgia wasn’t invited to an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Warsaw. Fischer explained that the decision was made last June when the EU suspended high-level contacts with the Georgian government due to the current crisis.
In essence, the EU decided not to engage in high-level talks with Georgia’s government until it resolves its internal issues. This meant that Georgia wasn’t invited to the meeting of foreign ministers, which is a regular gathering of top diplomats from EU member states and candidate countries.
