**”Humanitarian” Ceasefire Riddled with Bloodshed**
The Kremlin’s so-called “humanitarian” unilateral ceasefire began at midnight on May 8 and is set to end at midnight on May 11. However, it seems that this supposed truce has not brought any respite for Ukrainian civilians. In fact, Russian attacks have intensified in various areas, including Sumy Oblast.
Aerial bombs were used by Russian forces to hit a house in the Mykolaiv community of Sumy Oblast, killing a 55-year-old woman and injuring her 24-year-old son. Three other people were injured in nearby communities. These attacks show that Russia’s claims of a ceasefire are nothing more than a smokescreen for its continued aggression.
**Russian Drone Attacks Continue**
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched 31 drones from the city of Millerovo against Ukraine overnight on May 7-8. While air defense systems successfully shot down 20 drones, six others disappeared from radar without causing any damage. These decoy drones are often used by Russia to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defenses.
While there were no reported missile attacks or drone launches in Ukrainian airspace as of 8:00 a.m. on May 8, Russian forces did intensify tactical aviation strikes using guided aerial bombs in Sumy Oblast during the night.
