**Ukrainian Army Gains Ground Against Russian Forces**
In a significant development, the Ukrainian army has retaken 115 positions from Russian forces in April, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on May 1. This achievement is a testament to the Ukrainian military’s strategic approach and technological advancements.
According to Syrskyi, the Ukrainian army employed “active defence tactics” to regain control of these areas. The main focus now is to deter Russian troops in threatened regions, including Sumy, Kursk, Pokrovsk, and Novopavlivsk. These areas have been subject to intense fighting and shelling by Russian forces.
**Ukraine’s Military Successes**
The Ukrainian army has shown remarkable resilience and success on the battlefield. Syrskyi highlighted the effectiveness of artillery, aviation, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). In April, Ukraine’s long-range drones, known as DeepStrike, successfully hit 62 targets in Russia, causing significant damage to military facilities and undermining the Russian military-industrial complex.
Furthermore, Ukrainian drones destroyed more than 83,000 Russian targets in April, an 8% increase from March. This growing success has underscored the need for further expansion of drone operations. With Ukraine’s rapid development of domestic drone production and integration into reconnaissance and combat roles, the country is poised to become a significant player in drone warfare.
**Ukraine’s Drone Development**
President Volodymyr Zelensky has set an ambitious target of producing at least 30,000 long-range drones by 2025. Ukraine has also developed innovative drone-hybrid models, such as the Palianytsia and Peklo, which use turbojet engines as alternatives to traditional cruise missiles.
