**Corruption Scandal Rocks Ukraine’s Housing and Utilities Department**

This scheme allegedly involved buying firewood from other businesses and reselling it to the state at inflated prices.

Among those suspected are high-ranking officials, including the head of the housing and utilities departments in Luhansk and Kharkiv, as well as a procurement official and three entrepreneurs. The embezzled funds were allegedly laundered through the purchase of real estate and vintage cars. According to reports, the suspects bought 18 apartments and 42 parking spaces in major cities like Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk.

The officials have been charged with embezzlement as well as participating in a criminal organization under Ukraine’s Criminal Code. If convicted, they face up to 12 years in prison. So far, 36 million UAH ($865,000) has been seized from the accused.
