**Belgrade Students End RTS Blockade After 14 Days**
A tense situation in Belgrade has come to an end. For 14 days, students from the Belgrade Arts University School of Drama Arts (FDU) had been blocking the headquarters and studios of Serbia’s state TV (RTS). But on Monday, they announced that their blockade was over.
The reason for this decision is a new competition called by the parliamentary Culture and Information Committee. This committee has annulled the previous competition for membership in the Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM), which has the power to allocate broadcasting licenses and impose fines on electronic media.
**What does it mean?**
This means that the RTS, which was at the center of the blockade, can now go back to its normal operations. The students had been demanding either the shutting down of the RTS or a new competition for the REM Council. With this new competition called, their main demand has been met.
The FDU students had set up the blockade on April 14, calling for a change in the way the RTS is run. They argued that the current system was unfair and biased towards certain groups.
**What’s next?**
Now that the blockade is over, the RTS can go back to its normal programming. However, it remains to be seen how this new competition will unfold and what impact it will have on the way electronic media is regulated in Serbia.
