**Georgia and US Strengthen Trade Ties**
The First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili, met with Ashok Pinto, Assistant Secretary of Commerce of the United States, to explore new opportunities for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
During a meeting that took place during his visit to the US, Mr. Davitashvili discussed ways in which Georgia and the US can work together on a broader scale than just selling American products in the Georgian market. He emphasized that Georgia is not just a small consumer market for the US, but also an important trade hub where American products are distributed throughout Central Asia, the South Caucasus, and beyond.
The meeting was attended by Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and focused on initiatives to promote trade between the two countries. Mr. Davitashvili proposed signing a new framework memorandum of understanding between Georgia and the US, which would reflect the Georgian side’s initiatives for cooperation with American partners.
“This visit by Georgian businesses to the US this year will assess investment opportunities in America,” said Mr. Davitashvili. “The U.S. Department of Commerce will be actively involved in this process and will host Georgian companies.”
**A New Era of Cooperation?**
This meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening trade ties between Georgia and the US. The proposed framework memorandum of understanding is seen as a major initiative to promote cooperation between the two countries.
As Mr. Davitashvili pointed out, “We discussed initiatives that I believe are interesting for both Georgia and the U.S.” These initiatives include further promoting trade, investing in transportation, logistics, and energy, as well as developing new technologies, innovations, and startups.
The fact that meetings have been held with high-ranking officials from the US State Department, Department of Treasury, International Monetary Fund, and World Bank suggests a broader commitment to cooperation between Georgia and the US.
**A Bright Future?**
While details are still emerging, it’s clear that this meeting marks an important moment in strengthening trade ties between Georgia and the US. As Mr. Davitashvili said, “I think these are areas where we need to develop specific action plans.”
As the two countries move forward with their cooperation initiatives, one can expect increased economic activity, investment opportunities, and growth in trade volumes.
In an interview, Mr. Davitashvili highlighted the importance of promoting trade between Georgia and the US. “Georgia is a very interesting trade partner for the U.S., and the U.S. is a huge consumer market for our exports.”
