**London Ambulance Service Donates 59 Decommissioned Ambulances to Ukraine**
In a heartwarming display of solidarity and compassion, the London Ambulance Service (LAS) has donated 59 decommissioned ambulances to Ukraine since the start of the war in 2022. The latest donation of nine ambulances has just been delivered to the frontline, where they will provide much-needed care for those injured or affected by the conflict.
According to Chris Rutherford from LAS, the ambulances were no longer being used by frontline crews as the Service had invested in a fleet of newer, greener vehicles. However, their potential for saving lives was still very much alive, and LAS was determined to put them to good use in Ukraine.
“The ambulances have reached the end of their service in London,” Rutherford said, “but they can still help to save lives in Ukraine.” He added that his thoughts were with their counterparts working on ambulances caring for those injured in the conflict.
**A Heroic Effort**
The LAS has been at the forefront of this effort, and their dedication is truly inspiring. The total of 59 donated ambulances includes 10 retired vehicles that were delivered to Poland at the start of the war, where they were collected by Ukrainian drivers and transported to areas in need.
What’s more remarkable is that these donations are not just a one-off gesture – but rather a testament to the LAS volunteers’ commitment to helping those in crisis. In 2022, a team of 26 volunteers drove an incredible 1,100 miles (1,770 km) over three days to deliver ambulances filled with medical supplies.
“We cannot thank the London Ambulance Service enough for their kind donations which are saving lives,” said Nadia Pylypchuk from British-Ukrainian Aid. “In Ukraine any equipment or any help really matters – whether it is big or small.”
