**Russian Railroads Face Increased Sabotage in March**
In a significant development, Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR) has reported an increase in railroad fires across several Russian regions in March. The sabotage, carried out by pro-Ukrainian partisans, aimed to disrupt the Russian army’s supply chain and hinder their efforts in Ukraine.
The HUR stated that six units of traction rolling stock were destroyed in Moscow, Samara, and Tver oblasts, while nine railway signaling, centralization, and interlocking devices were damaged or destroyed in the Republic of Mari El, Stavropol, and Krasnoyarsk regions. Additionally, a power transformer and a tank car with fuel burned down in Moscow Oblast.
“This is a continuation of our efforts to disrupt the Russian occupation army’s supply chain,” said Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR) in a statement.
The HUR also highlighted that the Atesh partisan group had sabotaged a railway line in Russia’s Smolensk Oblast in late March, disrupting the transport of military cargo towards Bryansk and Kursk oblasts. The Atesh movement has been known to conduct sabotage attacks in Russia and Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine.
**Context and Significance**
Railways play a crucial role in transporting equipment and personnel for the Russian army, particularly in Ukraine’s conflict zones. By sabotaging these railroads, pro-Ukrainian partisans are targeting the heart of the Russian military’s supply chain, making it difficult for them to maintain their operations.
The increased sabotage also reflects the growing efforts by Ukraine and its allies to disrupt Russia’s war efforts. As the conflict in Ukraine continues, these types of attacks will likely become more frequent, further straining Russia’s military capabilities.
