**Ukraine Boosts Defenses as Russian Offensive Looms**
The situation on the frontline in Ukraine’s Sumy and Kharkiv regions remains stable, despite increased pressure from Russian forces. This is according to Dmytro Lykhoviy, spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Lykhoviy noted that while Russian forces have intensified their efforts in the Kharkiv and Kursk directions, particularly along the border areas of Sumy region, there are no significant changes on the frontline. The spokesperson emphasized that Ukrainian forces continue to carry out defensive operations, with some areas seeing active defense operations and success.
**Layered Defenses Established**
Lykhoviy highlighted that Ukraine has established echeloned defenses near Sumy and Kharkiv, indicating a concerted effort to counter potential Russian advances. This includes prepared fortifications and additional measures to protect against enemy forces. The spokesperson added that Russia’s aggressive plans are nothing new, with daily ground assaults and barbaric airstrikes.
**Russian Plans Not New**
The Ukrainian official also pointed out that Russian threats of offensives and promises to “take something in three days” have been made before, but ultimately proven ineffective. Despite these empty boasts, Russian forces have failed to capture key cities such as Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Toretsk, or Chasiv Yar.
**Increased Activity, Not a Reason for Hype**
While increased activity from Russian forces in the north of Sumy and Kharkiv regions is indeed a statement of fact, Lykhoviy argued that it should not be sensationalized. The spokesperson emphasized that Ukraine’s military is well-prepared to counter any potential advances.
**Commander-in-Chief Responds**
Earlier, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that the Russians have effectively begun their offensive in Sumy and Kharkiv regions. He also noted plans for creating a buffer zone in the Chernihiv region.
The situation on the ground remains tense, with negotiations between Ukraine and Russia showing little progress. As Ukrainian forces maintain their defensive posture, it remains to be seen how events will unfold.
