Serbian Journalist Cancels Show in Protest
A radio editor in Serbia canceled her show to protest against the use of a sound cannon at a recent student protest. Gorica Pilipovic, who hosts the music show Ars Sonora on Radio Belgrade, said she decided not to broadcast.
Pilipovic expressed her outrage over the police using a sound cannon at the March 15 protest in Belgrade. She told the Serbian Association of Journalists (UNS) that the use of such an intimidation tool was “the height of inappropriate behavior by state structures”.
The editor wished her listeners and the protesting students well, but chose not to continue with her regular show. This is not the first time staff at state Radio TV (RTS) have protested against police actions.
Pilipovic will now face punishment from station management, who have ordered her to write a statement about the incident.
