**Russia Launches Attack on Ukraine with 178 Drones**
On March 14, Russia launched an overnight attack on Ukraine using 178 Shahed-type drones and two Iskander-M ballistic missiles. The Ukrainian defense forces were able to intercept 130 of the drones.
The attack started at 7:30 p.m. local time and continued throughout the night. The drones were launched from multiple locations in Russia, including Orel, Millerovo, Kursk, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as Chauda in occupied Crimea.
**Most Drones Shot Down**
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 130 Shahed-type strike drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were shot down over fourteen Ukrainian regions. An additional 38 Russian decoy drones were reported to be “locationally lost” without causing any damage.
**Damage Caused in Ukraine**
The attack caused damage in several Ukrainian regions, including Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv. However, officials have yet to release information about casualties or details of the damage entailed.
**Energy Infrastructure Hit**
Reports indicate that the Russian attack hit Ukrainian energy infrastructure in Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa Oblast.
**Russia’s Air Campaigns Against Ukraine**
This is not the first time Russia has launched a large-scale air campaign against Ukraine. In recent months, bombardments by flocks of Shahed drones have become a nightly occurrence. However, Ukraine has recently had some success in counterattacks, with over 330 Ukrainian drones making it to Moscow and subsequent strikes hitting Russia’s fossil fuel infrastructure.
