**Russia Advances into Ukraine’s Kursk Oblast, Logistics Disrupted**
Russian forces have made significant gains in Ukraine’s Kursk Oblast, a region in Russia that borders Ukraine. Ukrainian soldiers and medics stationed in the area told the Kyiv Independent on March 7 that Russian troops have destroyed their logistics and are now in control of all roads.
The situation is considered “critical” by a Ukrainian soldier fighting in the region. He warned that Ukrainian troops face the threat of encirclement, with all bridges near the town of Sudzha being destroyed, cutting off supplies of ammunition and fuel.
**Push into Sumy Oblast**
DeepState, a Ukrainian battlefield monitoring group, has confirmed that Russian forces have made a breakthrough south of the Ukrainian-held town of Sudzha in Kursk Oblast. The most critical situation is on the border between Russia’s Kursk Oblast and Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast.
Russian troops are trying to push into Ukrainian positions near the villages of Zhuravka and Novenke in Sumy Oblast, according to DeepState. Attacks have also intensified near the village of Kurilovka, just 5 kilometers south of Sudzha.
**Ukraine Loses Control**
The Kyiv Independent could not verify these claims, but earlier in the day, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian group of forces in Kursk Oblast declined to comment on the situation. Russian forces have recently intensified efforts to break through into Sumy Oblast and cut off logistical routes of the Ukrainian salient in bordering Kursk Oblast.
**Ukraine’s Position**
Kyiv has sought to maintain its position in the Russian border region as leverage for possible peace talks. The Defense Forces are fighting and dealing significant casualties to Russian troops, according to Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.
**Global Response**
The global community is closely watching the situation. U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested imposing large-scale banking sanctions on Russia until a ceasefire agreement is reached. The European Council has also pledged to support Ukraine in its defense needs.
