American Companies Should Return to Anaklia Project, Says Mamuka Khazaradze
The leader of Lelo – Strong Georgia, Mamuka Khazaradze, thinks American companies should come back to the Anaklia project. He made this statement on a social network.
According to Khazaradze, his group has been talking to the American side about the issue for a long time. However, it’s impossible to make progress under the current government of Georgian Dream.
Khazaradze believes that missing this chance is like betraying the country. He thinks a bill in the US Senate aimed at stopping China’s control over ports around the world is relevant to Georgia’s situation.
The Anaklia project could be very important for Georgia and America, Khazaradze says. It could make Georgia a key place where big trade routes meet, with many billions of dollars’ worth of goods passing through.
Khazaradze asks if the current US administration thinks Anaklia is in their economic interest. He says yes, it is, because the shortest route to countries rich in raw materials passes through Georgia.
The country’s security and long-term prosperity are everyone’s responsibility, Khazaradze says. This chance should be used quickly.
