**Fire at Russian Oil Refinery**
A big fire broke out at the Ufimsky oil refinery in Russia’s city of Ufa on March 3. The fire was put out by emergency services, but not before it caused some damage.
The cause of the fire is not known for sure. However, there have been reports of drone strikes against Russian oil refineries by Ukrainian forces. These attacks started in the spring of 2024 and are aimed at hurting Russia’s oil industry.
Russian news channels reported an explosion at the refinery before the fire started. But it’s unclear if this was connected to the drone strikes or not.
**Ukraine’s Military Targets**
Ukraine considers Russian oil facilities to be valid military targets. This is because money from oil sales helps fund Moscow’s war efforts.
The Ufimsky oil refinery is one of Russia’s biggest and has a daily processing capacity of 168,000 barrels. It gets most of its oil supply from Bashkiria and western Siberia.
**Where the Refinery Is Located**
The refinery is located in Ufa, which is the capital of Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic. This city lies about 1,520 km east of Moscow and just north of Kazakhstan’s border.
