**Ukraine’s President Meets US President in Washington**

**Tense Negotiations**
The meeting was preceded by weeks of tense negotiations between the US and Ukraine. Ukraine initially rejected two draft proposals, saying they were one-sided obligations for Ukraine without any security commitments from the US.
**Framework Deal**
The long-debated agreement establishes a fund to which Ukraine will contribute 50% of proceeds from the future monetization of state-owned mineral resources, including oil, gas, and logistics infrastructure.
**Trump’s Comments**
Last week, Trump denounced Zelensky as a “dictator,” accusing him of refusing to hold elections. However, Trump softened his rhetoric ahead of the meeting with Zelensky.
**No Signing**
President Zelensky left the White House early without signing a mineral deal with the United States following a heated exchange with President Donald Trump on February 28.
