Student Protest in Novi Pazar, Serbia

Students took to the streets of Novi Pazar, a city in western Serbia, for 7 hours on Thursday. They were joined by fellow students from other parts of the country who marched to the city.

Many students came from cities like Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, and Kragujevac. TV cameras showed them being welcomed by local people, with many waving Serbian flags. Despite having a large Muslim population, there was no sign of tension in the city.

The protest march started at 11 am and stopped for a minute’s silence to honor those killed at Novi Sad Railway Station. An extra minute was added as a tribute to a student from Novi Pazar who had been killed earlier.

After Thursday’s protest, the students will start preparing to travel to Nis, another city in southern Serbia, for a protest on Saturday.
