**US Author Claims Donald Trump is a Russian Asset**
A US author and journalist, Craig Unger, has made shocking claims about Donald Trump’s relationship with Russia. Unger says he is “completely certain” that Trump is a Russian asset.
Unger points to evidence from the 1980s, when Trump was just starting out in real estate. He bought TVs for his Grand Hyatt Hotel from a store that was a front for the KGB. A former KGB agent told Unger that this was part of a larger effort to recruit Trump as an asset.
One piece of evidence is that David Bogatin, a Russian mafia member, paid $6 million in cash for five condos at Trump Tower in 1984. This was the first of many times that people with ties to the Russian mafia lived in Trump’s buildings.
Unger also mentions Trump’s visit to Moscow in 1987, which was set up by the KGB. After this visit, Trump ran a brief campaign for president in 1988 and took out an ad in The New York Times criticizing America’s alliance with NATO.
**The Same Foreign Policy Today**
Unger says that these actions were part of a pattern that has continued to today. Trump’s current policies, such as betraying Ukraine and siding with Putin, are the same ones he advocated for back in 1987.
**What This Means for US-Russia Relations**
Unger believes that Trump’s actions are destroying Western intelligence and putting Ukraine and European partners at risk. He says that it is likely that any intelligence shared by these countries will be passed straight to Vladimir Putin.
**A Petrified American Citizen**
As an American citizen, Unger is “petrified” by the idea that a Russian asset could be in the White House. He believes that this is a threat not just to US-Russia relations but also to democracy itself.
